IN THE NAME OF ALLAH THE MOST GRACIOUS THE MOST MERCIFUL

The Muslim Congress of Liberia (MCL), a faith base
non-governmental organization, was founded for the objective of fostering Islam
through the establishment of Mosques and educational facilities. The
Organization established its first institution of formal education, Muslim
Congress High School in 1980 after building a mosque in 1966 and commenced the
project of the central mosques in 1971 with capacity of 5000 worshipers. The
school was burnt down in 2003 during a religious conflict and since the organization
has been beset with myriad of problems ranging from poor space, low student
intakes, to human resource and program inadequacies. The school was
reconstructed by the support of the Islamic Development Bank in 2010.

In order to put the MCL on the right trajectory of
development, the senior executive committee constituted an ad hoc committee to
design a five-year program consistent with the aims and objectives of the
Congress. These programs are geared towards redeeming the lost image of the MCL
and to expand its activities to programs well needed by the Islamic community.
Quite interestingly, several Islamic organizations are already engaged in
similar programs, thereby posing a major challenge to the MCL as the most
outstanding Islamic organization. Nevertheless, the MCL is blessed with
potential and visionary young Muslims who are committed to the enhancement of
its objectives.
